Advice for new bowlers
We are very pleased that you have joined Denham Bowls Club, and hope you enjoy bowling with us for a long time. Denham is a very friendly club with a long history of success and enjoyment for a large number of people over many years. The History page and other sections of the website give more details of these successes.
Flat green bowling is a game whose basic skills can be learned quickly but where the game’s emphasis on accuracy and precision can be developed and enjoyed over a long period of time. As with many sports, your enjoyment will be enhanced by practice and by involvement in friendly roll-ups and competitive matches.
It is a very sociable game and you will meet many like-minded people. Those with experience in the game will always be willing to help and advise. We have a strong coaching tradition and new bowlers benefit from the support of Carol, our well qualified and experienced club coach. Free tuition is available from her throughout the year.
We are keen that new members become involved in friendly and competitive matches within the club and against other bowls clubs as soon as they feel comfortable and confident in taking part. We also encourage people to become involved in all the wider activities we organise.
Please read the section of the website on Etiquette which is particularly useful to new bowlers.
The club provides new bowlers with a copy of the very useful English Bowls Coaches Society ‘Guide for Beginners’ which contains very helpful advice including an excellent list of ‘Dos’ and Don’ts’.
Above all else, enjoy your game.
